We Spilled the Beans

We were planning to tell Elsie and Gavin the news sometime this week (approaching 12 weeks pregnant) and had identified Tuesday as the ideal night.  But I got antsy and just wanted to tell them (Gavin in particular) and we were home early and had dinner cleaned up by 5:30 and we just told them!

I had ordered t-shirts for Gavin and Elsie and a onesie for the baby. I wrapped them up as gifts so that Gavin could open them, read them, and hopefully figure out the surprise.  He saw that his shirt said, "BIG" and helped Elsie open hers that said, "MIDDLE."  He had no idea what these clues hinted at.  So then he opened the final package: a onesie that said, "LITTLE."  Eric asked him who that package was for and he guessed, "Elsie?  Me?  Mia?"  He really had no idea!  Eric finally pointed to my belly and he yelled, "There is a baby in Mom's tummy?!?"  Then we got the happy, elated reaction we had expected.  He wanted to know if the baby is a girl or a boy, when it is coming, and what we will call it.  He suggested: Frederick, Paxton, Amelia, and Nora.  When we told him we've been calling the baby "Chocolate Chip" and he said he'll call it "Chocolate Chip Blueberry."

We called Grandma and Grandpa to share the news.  They were surprised and excited for us.  Over the next couple of nights we will call Grandpa Lutz, Grandma Jo, and Grandma Harding.  Then I'll send an email to extended family and share with my co-workers at the end of the week.
