Ultrasound #2

This afternoon we had our second ultrasound.  The purpose was to make sure this little chocolate chip is growing appropriately and measuring on track.  The nurse was very pleased with what we saw and she printed a few photos for us.

We were able to clearly identify the head, body, arms, and legs.  Chocolate chip's heartbeat was strong and steady and we could even see it beating on the monitor.  He or she was wiggling around quite a bit, but it's obviously too soon for me to be able to feel any movement.  The baby measured 8w 3d and they have me charted at 8w 6d, so that is great.  My due date remains March 18.

At our last ultrasound, the heart rate was 117 bpm.  Today it was 189 bpm!  The nurse assured us that these were both within the normal range for the baby's gestational age.  The range changes over time and the heart rate will be slower when we hear it again at my OB's office.  Because...

that's right - we graduated from the fertility clinic!  Dr. Young came in to see if we had any questions and to wish us well.  I will continue doing my current medication regimen (prenatal, estrogen, baby aspirin, vitamin d, progesterone shot) until September 4 and then stop everything but the prenatal.  We even get to reduce the amount of progesterone in each injection by half until the end!

So, now we just carry on as usual for another month.  We will share the news with Eric's immediate family next week and with the world in just a few weeks!
