Ultrasound #1

Today we had our first ultrasound appointment.  We were looking forward to seeing the baby (although it's hard to see much at this stage) and hopefully hearing a heartbeat, but we were also a bit anxious for the appointment.  My initial blood draw brought good news, but the follow-up blood draw came with conflicting information.  Even though we got reassurance that the hCG was increasing after a long weekend, it was still hard not to be aware that we could still be disappointed.

However, we left with all good feelings.  We were able to see the tiny little blurb on the screen that will keep growing into our sweet little Chocolate Chip.  The nurse said everything looked great!  And we got to hear the heartbeat - a strong 130 bpm.  According to the due date they gave me over the phone (March 20) I would have been 6 weeks 4 days today.  But the nurse said she had me at 6 weeks 6 days and gave us a due date of March 18.

My next appointment will be in 2 weeks.  We will have another ultrasound and Dr. Young will speak with us for a minute.  At the conclusion of that appointment, Mid-Iowa will fax my records to my OB and we will have "graduated" from the fertility clinic.  All future appointments will be with my regular OB.
