Preparing for Embryo Transfer
We are one month away from our target transfer date. I emailed my fertility nurse on the first day of my cycle and she put together a med calendar for me to follow. It begins slowly, with estrogen patches (3 at a time, worn for 3 days and then replaced with 3 new patches), a prenatal vitamin, low-dose aspirin, and vitamin D. I'll continue this regimen until September 12, when we add the progesterone injections. These will be done from 5 days prior to the transfer until the end of the first trimester (or a negative pregnancy test). The only hiccup so far has been that the pharmacy did not include needles with the progesterone in oil, so I had to make some phone calls and a second trip to Walgreens to get all of the necessary supplies. Luckily I have plenty of time before I need them and it was a simple fix.
I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I will not start a new pack of birth control pills (hooray for being done with one medication!) and there is only one blood draw/lining check before the transfer. As of now, we are planning to transfer one embryo on Tuesday, September 17.
For now I'm taking things one step at a time and focusing on following each day of the calendar. I'm also focusing on the beginning of the school year, which is good and bad. It's nice to have something else to think about, but this wasn't our ideal timeline because the beginning of the school year is hectic. I guess this is another lesson in letting go of control, learning to be flexible, trusting God's timing, and that babies have their own schedules.
