Ordering Meds
To begin the IVF process, there are oral medications and then injectable medications. For the first three weeks of the cycle, I am taking birth control, a prenatal vitamin, Vitamin D, and an antibiotic (for one week). This is called the suppression phase. Our out-of-pocket cost during this phase is about $35.00 total. Next comes the stimluation phase, which is the expensive part.
Hy-Vee Pharmacy Solutions (Amber Pharmacy) in Omaha fills the injectable medication prescriptions. They will ship four different injections to our doorstep prior to my aniticipated start date of April 1. Before the prescriptions can be filled, we need to pay for them in full. The sticker price is $4,835.97 and insurance will help to cover the cost. We are responsible for our deductible, plus 30% of the remaining balance until we reach our out-of-pocket max. This translates into an out-of-pocket cost of $1,680. This is where the IVF costs really begin!
Once the medications have been paid for, they will be shipped to our house so we are ready to begin on April 1. Ordering these injectable medications makes the process seem a lot more real!
