Announcing to Gavin
We have been so excited to tell Gavin that he is going to be a big brother, but we wanted to wait until I was around 12 weeks along. This week we had our third ultrasound and our first appointment with my regular OB. Since everything is still looking good, we were ready to share the news! We waited until tonight because it was the first night that the three of us would be home all evening.
After school, we picked Gavin up from daycare and went to Jethro's to eat as a family. This was Gavin's request as he wanted mac and cheese. When we got home, we gave him three gifts we had wrapped: two books (Daniel Tiger is a Big Brother and God Gave Us Two) and a t-shirt that says "Big Brother (finally)."
He wasn't really sure what it all meant, so we told him that Mommy has a baby in her tummy. He seemed happy, but was more inquisitive than elated. He asked where the baby is, if he can see it, and what its name is. We're expecting to field many more questions in the coming months.
I also sent an email to my extended families (Luebbe and Harding sides) tonight. I included a comment about the IVF process and a photo of a onesie with all of the needles we used and some old ostomy supplies as well. It's been a long journey to get to this point.
I'm going to announce the pregnancy to my co-workers tomorrow morning - with donut holes. I'm anxious to share the news and hear reactions!
