I Cheated... and it was worth it!
Since I've been feeling more "sensations" than I did after my transfer with Elsie, I have been itching to take a home pregnancy test. The main thing holding me back was the fact that it could show a negative result and that would be emotionally difficult to deal with. And the sooner I chose to test, the higher the likelihood of seeing a negative test result (even if would eventually be positive).
But the past two nights (Saturday and Sunday nights, which would be 8 and 9 days post transfer) I've had some abdominal pressure and light nausea. The last night, I gagged and thought I was going to be sick when brushing my teeth. That sealed the deal for me. I had decided I would test when I woke up this morning (Monday, or 10 days post transfer).
Naturally, I woke up at 4:15 and needed to pee. I weighed my options: just pee now and take the test tomorrow morning, or get the pregnancy test out and take it at 4:30 am. I chose the latter! So I went to the basement where I had staged the testing area (since I usually go to the bathroom down there before doing my morning workout) and took the test! The box said that a positive result would be possible within 1 minute and would show within 3 minutes if it detected HCG. I glanced at the test about 1:15 after starting the timer and it was definitely positive! I snapped a photo for proof and took the test upstairs to my bedside table. Then I pretended to sleep until our alarms went off at 5:45.
Once Eric was awake, I handed him the test. He was surprised to be receiving a pregnancy test from me in bed before 6 am, but turned on a light and gave an excellent, happy reaction. Now we are still waiting for the news to fully sink in.
I was originally scheduled for my blood test on Wednesday (12 days post transfer) and the follow-up blood test on Monday (17 days post transfer) since we will be out of town on Friday for Allison's baby shower and not available for a 14 day follow-up. Since I got a positive test today, I emailed my nurse at Mid-Iowa to see if I could move up the blood test by one day so that the two blood draws would be 48 hours apart. She granted me permission, so I have my official blood test tomorrow at 7:40 am. This means that we will feel very confident in our positive result before we leave for Kenosha. And I think it's possible that I will have both of my Mid-Iowa ultrasounds done before school even starts! We are over the moon about this little babe.
