FET (Frozen Embryo Transfer)
Our transfer day has finally arrived! I took five oral medications this morning (prenatal vitamin, vitamin d, baby aspirin, augmentin, dexamethasone) and a vaginal progesterone pill. Then I went to school for my regular morning routine. I left at noon to come home and prepare for transfer. At 1:30 I took a valium, emptied my bladder, and drank 16+ ounces of water so that I would have a full bladder during transfer. We arrived at the clinic at 2:15 and were called back around 2:30 to get "dressed" for the procedure. One nurse prepared the abdominal ultrasound and told us what to expect while we waited for the doctor to come in. When Dr. Young came into the room, he inserted the speculum, swabbed the cervix, and dropped the embryo into the uterus. We were able to see the monitor and watch the embryo enter the uterus. The whole procedure lasted approximately five minutes! And we got a cute little photo of our embryo to bring home with us.
Now we wait. It seems like many steps of this process have included a "hurry up and wait" component, but this seems like it will be the most trying wait of all! I will go back for a blood draw on Monday, September 30 - 13 days after transfer. Later in the day, the clinic will call to let us know if they were able to detect HCG in my blood. I will then go back for another blood draw two days later, and if we are pregnant, my first scan will be 2-3 weeks after that. In the meantime, I will continue all meds as scheduled (prenatal vitamin, vitamin d, baby aspirin, progesterone injections). And wait. Patiently. (Yeah, right).
