Day 1 - Day 5 (Post-Retrieval)

Egg retrieval was on Wednesday (April 10), and we got a phone call Thursday (April 11) to let us know that 6 of our 10 eggs were fertilized successfully.  On average, 60%-70% fertilize, so we're hitting all of the averages so far.  Hopefully, those 6 eggs will continue to divide and multiply their cells over the weekend and into next week.  On Tuesday (April 16), we will get another phone call to let us know how many have reached the blastocyst stage (5 days after fertilization).  The blastocysts that remain on Tuesday will be biopsied and sent to CooperGenomics Laboratories to have genetic screening done.  The genetic testing (PGS, or preimplantation genetic screening) will look at each embryo to make sure it has the correct number of chromosomes.  This gives the embryo the best chance of resulting in a healthy pregnancy.   Approximately one week after sending the biopsy to the PGS lab, we will hear how many of our embryos are genetically viable.

I have had more soreness than I expected to have after egg retrieval.  For about 5 days I experienced cramping and soreness - not an intolerable amount, but enough that I frequently noticed it.  I was grateful when that subsided!
