COVID-19 +
Well, it finally came for us. We avoided this plague for a long time, but we knew our days were numbered. I started feeling symptoms over the long weekend, and scheduled a test for the afternoon on MLK Jr. Day, to be sure that I didn't have Covid before returning to school on Tuesday. And what do you know - I tested positive. Gavin went to school on Tuesday, but had to have a Covid test done Wednesday to be able to return to school for the rest of the week. Eric took him Wednesday morning (today) before school for a rapid test, and it turned up positive as well. He has been napping or laying queitly most of the day and has been running a very low-grade fever (99-100) and complaining of a headache. Luckily, Eric and Elsie have not had major symptoms and Eric tested negative on the rapid test this morning. We'll see if they succumb later in the week.
Urbandale schools is still requiring a 10-day quarantine from the first day of symptoms. So I am cleared to return on Tuesday, January 24. Gavin is not able to return until Saturday, January 29. So his first day back will be Monday, January 31. Elsie has to stay home for 10 days after anyone in the family tests positive, so she is out for quite some time as well.
We are glad that Gavin and I had symptoms at similar times so that our quaranite overlaps. We can just be home recovering together. If Elsie gets it another time, we'd have to figure out who would take off work during her next 10-day quarantine. This way we'll just have a few days to work out at the end.
There is never a good time to be sick (especially with Covid), but I'm grateful that this will (hopefully) not interfere with labor and delivery. Chocolate Chip might get some antibodies from me and we can plan for things to go smoothly in 8-ish weeks.
I have read that some OBs are recommending Vitamin C, Vitamin D, or Zinc supplements while fighting Covid. Others are saying a prenatal is sufficient. I'm taking my prenatal daily and have taken Vitamin D inconsistently throughout the pregnancy. So I bought more Vitamin D to take this week and some orange juice to help with Vitamin C. I did reach out to my doctor's office to let them know I tested positive. They basically said to seek medical care if I was having trouble breathing or was having any problematic OB symptom (leaking fluid, bleeding, decreased fetal movement), but otherwise it's business as usual. I can keep my 32-week appointment next Monday because it is a full week after my positive test. So I guess Eric will watch the kids while I go?
Life is never dull, that's for sure.
