Coming Home
Today we got to bring Elsie home! The OB midwife discharged me from the hospital and a pediatrician discharged Elsie. The pediatrician was very pleased with how her umbilical cord looks, the number of wet and dirty diapers she is having, and her weight. She weighs 6 pounds 11 ounces and has only lost 3.8% of her birth weight (up to 7% is normal). We will see our pediatrician next Monday for her first weight check to make sure everything is on track.
As we were loading up, we ordered sandwiches from South Union and Eric ran inside to pick them up. We brought our lunch and our daughter home and arrived around 1:00. We ate, unloaded the car, and started unpacking our hospital bags so that we could wash everything we took with us. Nana and Papa brought Gavin and Mia home around 3:00. Gavin was very curious about Elsie and anxious to meet her! But the novelty wore off as soon as he noticed the wrapped gifts on the fireplace. We spent the rest of the afternoon playing quietly and Eric grilled hot dogs for dinner. Then we let Gavin choose a movie to watch. Elsie's first cinematic experience was Cinderella!
Our first night of feedings went well. Elsie ate around every 3 hours, but was easy to put back down each time. Eric put her down for the night as soon as I was done feeding her so that I could get as much sleep as possible before the next feeding. And Eric and Gavin both slept well, too. Now we sleep with two monitors and have two kids to check on before we go to sleep each night!
