6 Weeks

We have made it to the 6 week mark!  This is the earliest that most doctors will schedule an ultrasound to date the pregnancy (not necessary with an IVF transfer), detect a heartbeat (most difficult to do at 6 weeks and easier each week after), and make sure things are looking good.  My first ultrasound is scheduled for October 21, which will be between weeks 7-8.

This week Muffin is the size of a sweet pea.  The baby is beginning to form a nose, eyes, ears, chin, and cheeks.  And the circulatory system is also circulating blood.  Finally, Muffin may be wiggling his/her paddle-like limbs.

In the next week, the embryo will double in size again.  That sounds tiring for both of us.     :-)     However, this week I have parent-teacher conferences, so there won't be any extra rest.  Speaking of rest, Eric moved the guest bed out of its previous location and into the empty bedroom across the hall.  I think we can say we completed our first baby preparation!   (The term "we" is used loosely here.)

Week 6
The beginnings of the nursery. For now it will serve as a blank wall for my weekly bump photos.
