39 Weeks

Today I would be 39 weeks pregnant, so we decided to take a weekly bump photo with Elsie on the outside this time!  She was almost ready to eat, but she was a good sport and posed for the photo.  

According to The Bump, a baby at 39 weeks is the size of a pumpkin (about 20 inches long and approximately 7 pounds).  Elsie's measurements at birth were very close to this!  In the last 2 weeks of pregnancy, the baby's brain and fingernails are doing most of the growing as the baby runs out of room in Mom's belly.  We noticed that Elsie's nails are long and Daddy already used a nail file to give Elsie her first manicure.

We never dreamed that she would come on her own before 39 weeks, so it still seems crazy that we have her home with us today.  This is our first full day as a family of four, and it's been so nice to be home and spend the day together.  It will take a little while to establish a new "normal," but for now we're enjoying getting to know Elsie and watching Gavin love on his new baby sister.
