37 Week Appointment
Today I saw Dr. Kaufman again. Last week, Dr. Bedia was a little concerned about my lack of weight gain and my belly measuring a bit small. So today I had an ultrasound prior to seeing the doctor. According to the ultrasound, Muffin is weighing approximately 7 pounds 14 ounces. This is equivalent to the 80th percentile! My fluid level is good and the baby's heart rate was 126 bpm. So the baby is looking great.
Dr. Kaufman agreed that I likely have a small hernia. She said it could go away on its own as my belly shrinks back down, or it could require surgical repair. We will reassess at my 6-week postpartum appointment to determine whether surgery is necessary (and whether it would be performed by Dr. Gross or a general surgeon).
I am anxious about the possibility of a c-section for a large baby. Dr. Kaufman will perform a cervix check next week and we can schedule an induction for the 39th week if I'm dilated and effaced at that point. She said that scheduled inductions are a bit harder to schedule during the pandemic and it's possible that the induction could be canceled. So we will hope to be able to get on the schedule and stay on the schedule.
I asked the ultrasound tech if I could bring home a photo of Muffin for Eric to see (since there are no visitors allowed in the clinic) and she sent the photos to my phone. We got a few great 4D photos that show lots of details! It makes us even more anxious to meet this baby.
