OB Appointment (35 Weeks)

Today I saw Dr. Gable for another routine OB appointment.  The entire appointment lasted approximately 4 minutes.  My blood pressure was as low as usual, I gained one pound in the last two weeks, and the baby's heart rate was in the 130s.

I told her that I've been having more noticeable cramping in the past week or so.  She said that as long as it's not accompanied by bleeding or leaking of fluid, it's not a concern.  In fact, she said, "At this point - bring it on!"  It's just a sign that my body is preparing for labor.

Before the end of the appointment, Dr. Gable asked when my last ultrasound was.  I told her that we had one at the perinatal center at 24 weeks (the echo ultrasound to see the heart in detail).  She recommended we schedule another ultrasound along with my next appointment to make sure the baby is growing appropriately and to check the amount of fluid around the baby.  So we'll get to see the baby again in 10 days!  I had third-trimester ultrasounds with each of our other pregnancies, so it will be fun to get to see this baby late in the game as well.  With Gavin, I was doiong Remicadee infusions through the entire pregnancy, so we did an ultrasound to check on his growth.  With Elsie, I did not gain weight or grow in my belly measurement between weeks 32 and 36, so we had an ultrasound to check on her growth as well.  Both turned out to be doing well in utero, so there was nothing we needed to do differently.  I'm confident that this baby is thriving, too, but I won't turn down an opportunity to have an additional ultrasound!
