34 Weeks
This week Chocolate Chip is the size of a butternut squash or a pineapple. He or she is coming close to 18 inches in length and 5 pounds in weight. The baby's fingernails and toenails are growing in, the eyes are open when the baby is awake and closed when he or she is asleep, and the testicles are descending from the abdomen to the scrotum (if the baby is a boy).
Over the past week I have experienced more third-trimester pregnancy symptoms. I am not sleeping as well at night, I've had a few calf and foot cramps, I'm noticing more Braxton Hicks contractions, and I've noticed an increase in vaginal discharge. And Eric has noticed a lot more sighing, huffing, and heavy breathing (from me, as I complete regular daily tasks). All of these things are normal and expected for this point in the pregnancy, but that doesn't make all of them enjoyable. However, I know that this is my last 6-ish weeks of being pregnant (EVER), so I'm determined to enjoy them and enjoy our last days as a family of 4 before we become a compelted family of 5.
My next OB appointment is a week from today with Dr. Gable, so there is no official medical update this week. It will be my last bi-weekly appointment before switching to weekly exams (and nonstress tests) at 36 weeks!
