32 Weeks
Pregnancy is tracked in weeks, but I am now considered 8 months pregnant! This week Chocolate Chip is the size of a squash or a cantaloupe. 😮 He or she is between 16-17 inches long and just under 4 pounds. At this point, all of the baby's major organs are developed, except for the lungs. Chocolate Chip is using amniotic fluid to practice breathing. And his or her skin is becoming less transaprent.
I took advanatge of being home to start packing my hospital bag (and Eric's). I found the list we used when we were packing for Gavin's labor and delivery and modified it slightly. Then I inventoried our current supplies to see what we needed to get and placed a Target pick-up order for those items. While the kids slept I was able to pack my bag (except for a few last-minute items) and pack some snacks for Eric.
I have also been slowly working on piecing together the nursery. We still need to clean out the closet so we have room for baby-specific items in there. But I have ordered some prints and decorations for the walls, a cube organizer to put under the window, and black-out curtains. Once those things arrive we can work on organizing the room a bit. Our dresser should be here in approximately 2 weeks, but we are still waiting to hear more about the crib. It might not arrive before the baby comes (worst case), so we need to nail down our back-up plan in case that happens.
Once we have the dresser built, Eric will get the baby clothes out of storage and we can pack a few things for Chocolate Chip for the hospital. And I'll get some newborn and 0-3 clothes, burp cloths, and blankets washed and put away. Then things will seem very, very real!
This week we have been home with Covid (I test positive Monday, Gavin tested positive Wednesday, Eric tested negative, and Elsie doesn't seem to have symptoms). Since I had a little more time on my hands (basically during Elsie's naps), I packed my hospital bag. There are a few things to add last-minute, and I need to add the things for the baby, but otherwise it is ready to go. Now we can start working on ordering the things from our Amazon and Target registries and getting the nursery organized. We will be ready for this baby one way or another!
