24 Weeks

According to The Bump, the baby is as big as a cantaloupe this week.  ?  (A small cantaloupe, I presume.) . Muffin is almost 12 inches long and about 1.5 pounds.  His or her face is fully formed - complete with white eyelashes, eyebrows, and hair.  The baby's hair does not have any pigment yet.  The auditory system is developing even more.  If the baby hears a song repeatedly, he or she may recognize it and feel calmed by it after birth.  

This week we have two appointments.  On Wednesday I have my 24-week appointment which includes the glucose test.  I will drink a sweet liquid and then have blood drawn one hour later to see how my body processes sugar.  This tests for gestational diabetes.  

On Friday, we have our fetal echocardiogram (ultrasound) at the perinatal center downtown.  When we had our anatomy scan, the ultrasound tech told us that this is routine for IVF patients and Muffin's heart looked perfect at the 20-week mark.  It will be fun to see Muffin again, but I will feel better after we hear that everything still looks good.  Assuming we don't have any complications as the pregnancy progresses, this will be our last ultrasound.
