24 Week Appointment

Dr. Kaufman was out of the office this week, so I saw Dr. Gable today instead.  I had a great experience!  I really love Dr. Kaufman, but if she were not available, I would happily see Dr. Gabel again.  My appointment was at 7:30 and I planned to be there until 9:00 because I was seeing the doctor as well as completing the glucose screening.  Dr. Kaufman's nurse, Nicole, came out to the waiting room around 7:20 and took me back to drink the glucose solution.  Then I went back to the waiting room and was called back a few minutes later by Dr. Gable's nurse for my actual appointment.

My blood pressure was great, I gained 6 pounds in the past 4 weeks, and Muffin's heart rate was around 140.  So all of our stats were good.  I didn't have any questions to ask and Dr. Gable was pleased to hear that I'm feeling good.  Everything is just going well!

After seeing Dr. Gable, I went back to the waiting room until 8:20-ish when I was called back to have by blood drawn.  The lab tech did a great job and got me on the first poke.  Then she sent me on my way (so I stopped at 5 Borough Bagels for a bagel and a coffee on my way to school.  Since the office was so efficient, I had extra time!).

The doctor told me that it can take 2 days to get the results of the glucose screening, but I was able to see my results this afternoon.  I passed my gestational diabetes screen (my glucose was 85 mg/Dl and the normal range is 70-140) and my hemoglobin was also normal for pregnancy (11.5 and the "ideal" range is 12-16).

Our next appointment is an ultrasound on Friday morning.  It will be a fetal echocardiogram to closely examine Muffin's heart.
