22 Weeks

At 22 weeks, the baby is approximately 11 inches long and 1 pound in weight.  We know that Muffin measured exactly 1 pound at 20 weeks + 6 days, so it's possible he or she is a little bigger than that.  But there's no way to know for sure!  The Bump says that the baby is the size of a coconut (a small coconut).

At this point, the baby's eyes and lips are more developed so he or she is looking more like a newborn.  The nervous system is developing, so the baby is grabbing things like his or her ears, nose, and umbilical cord.  Vision and hearing are also becoming more refined.  The baby can hear noises such as my heartbeat, blood circulating, stomach gurgling, and my voice.  He or she can also perceive light and dark (like the light from a flashlight shining directly at my belly).  Muffin sleeps 12-14 hours per day, so there are times when I don't feel movement.  But at other times, I am feeling more pronounced kicks and flips.  Eric has still only felt a couple of big movements and I haven't had Gavin try to feel movements yet.

This week I made the transition to maternity pants (leggings and jeans).  It is much more comfortable to wear maternity pants than my regular pants!  My belly still isn't super round, but it's feeling bigger by the day and it's very obvious to us.  It will be fun to see if we get another size estimate at our ultrasound at 24 weeks + 6 days.
