21 Weeks
This week the baby is as big as an endive (or banana, for those of us who only eat common foods). The baby is now measured crown-to-heel instead of crown-to-rump and is probably around 10.5 inches. The Bump and What to Expect estimate the baby's weight to be 13-ish ounces and at our anatomy scan (20+4) the ultrasound tech estimated his or her weight to be 14 ounces.
At this stage, the baby's arms and legs are in proportion and his or her movements are much more coordinated. The baby's body is producing many blood cells, he or she is drinking amniotic fluid (and has developed taste buds to help taste the flavor of the fluid - influenced by what I eat), and sleeps 12-14 hours each day. Doesn't sound like it's too rough in there right now!
I have my next appointment on Wednesday morning with Dr. Gable. She would have delivered Elsie if she had been born within 12 hours of my water breaking. But no such luck. We will go over the results of my anatomy scan, but it should be a pretty quick appointment otherwise.
