17 Weeks

The baby is the size of a pomegranate (5 inches long and weighing 6 ounces).  At 17 weeks, the baby's cartilage is turning to bone.  Muffin is starting to put on some fat and this is the first week that the baby weighs more than the placenta.  The umbilical cord is also thickening - just like the baby!  Muffin is now spending his or her time sucking and swallowing in preparation for drinking milk.  The ears are almost fully formed and he or she is starting to be able to hear my voice.

Also, I felt the first little flutters today!  It was a tightening, rolling feeling in my lower abdomen.  But I felt it a few times within 5-10 minutes.  And based on the movement we saw at the 12-week ultrasound, there will be plenty more flutters to come.
