11 Weeks
This week Muffin is as big as a lime! His or her body is approximately 1.6 inches long. His or her head is the same size as the rest of his or her body, but that will change in the coming weeks. Muffin's fingers and toes are no longer webbed and tooth buds, nail beds, and hair follicles are forming. Ears are nearly shaped, the nose has open nasal passages, and the mouth has a tongue and palate. There is still lots more growing and "evening out" to do, but it seems like a lot is taking shape!
We have our first OB appointment with my regular OB this week (and another ultrasound!). I have a list of questions, including things like: Will we have any additional monitoring or ultrasounds from this point forward? Is there any reason to not consider breastfeeding? How can I do my best to maintain a healthy weight for both myself and the baby? If I tested positive for Strep-B during my last pregnancy, will I test positive again? I am really looking forward to seeing Dr. Kaufman - and we're always excited to get a glimpse of Muffin via ultrasound!
After this appointment, we will be ready to share the news with Gavin. I have Bible study Tuesday night after our appointment and we go to church on Wednesday nights. So our plan is to have a "family night" on Thursday and share the news then. We want to wait until we can all be together for several hours so we can talk about it, answer questions, and excite him about being a big brother! We have a couple of gifts for him to open: a t-shirt that says "Big Brother (finally.)" and two books. Once he opens those items, we can tell him why we chose those gifts for him. Eric and I are so anxious to tell him - it's been a tough secret to keep! We are expecting a pretty excited reaction.
I am planning to share the news with co-workers on Friday, and we'll do a social media announcement sometime after that (between this weekend and Thanksgiving).
